The first lots in The Lakes were sold on January 31, 1987, and construction began on Lake Marion. Since that time the community has grown in phases to consist of 502 lots and 12 lakes. All of our lakes are named for namesake lakes in the Carolinas and our streets for Carolina rivers. The Lakes is a “deed restricted” community. Simply put, this means that ownership and/or tenancy is subject to the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, Restrictions and Easements for the subdivision (as amended) and the by-laws of the Lakes Property Owners Association, Inc. We are an “all volunteer” community. We do not employ an outside management company. Our Board of Directors and the various standing committees are responsible for all aspects of maintenance, preservation, and control of the community. We hire a variety of outside contractors to provide landscape maintenance, irrigation system operation and repairs, lake management (including vegetation control and fish management), road repairs, and drainage system maintenance. We actively support the Adopt a highway program (our portion of US 17 By-pass was the County award winner for 2008. We are blessed with a multi-talented group of residents who bring extraordinary skills and experience to all our projects and undertakings. |
